Week 24

Tomorrow is Week 24. Can't believe we only have 16 weeks left, that really is not very long and we have so much to do!

The baby has been kicking, especially after I eat. We'll just sit there and stare at my belly after dinner. I guess it's cheap entertainment.

Still feeling good and have good energy. Work is getting really crazy right now so I'm trying to keep up without overdoing it.

We've spent the last couple of weekends working on landscaping and taking full advantage of the nice weather. Pretty much done with what we are going to do outside for now.

We've been working on cleaning the basement out. Took 2 loads to Goodwill! Now just have to organize all those bins. If you're curious or you haven't figured it out I'm nesting. I've always been sort of a closet neat / organizational freak, but now it's in overdrive. Just trying to get those things checked off our list before baby 'H' arrives!

A tall boy.

We had our monthly appointment last week. It was a little different this time. After some rountine bloodwork, by OB Doc discovered that I have a unique antibody in my blood. It's called Anti-K or Kell Antigen. He recommended that we go to see a perinatologist to be looked at further. This antibody K in my blood usually occurs if someone has had a blood transfusion, which I never have. So once again, I'm a freak of nature. I was told that less than 10% of the population has this. And if I ever do need blood it has to be A+ with the Anti-K.

Because I'm not a medical / technical person I will simply describe this anti-k. Basically your body has an army of antibodies, which when you get a virus these antibodies come out of sleep and fight the virus. The antibody K that I have could recognize the baby as a foreign body and attack it, because more than likely the baby does not have this.

So we went and saw the perinatologist at Methodist Hospital bright and early at 6:30 a.m! His name is Dr. Bonebreake. I really think he should be an orthopedic surgeon with that name. He was very cool. He was not overly concerned with my anti-K blood since it's our first pregnancy and we haven't experienced any miscarriages previously. He wants to monitor me every 4 weeks and will do a doppler of baby 'H's brain to look at a specific blood vessel. He will also monitor my thyroid since I have hypothyroidism as well, which can also affect the pregnancy.

After our appt. with Dr. Bonebreake we had a 9:00 with my regular OB doc. Nothing too exciting there. Had to do the glucose test for gestational diabetes. Didn't have an ultrasound since I had one with Dr. Bonebreake. The only thing we found out here was that my iron levels are a little low, so now I'm on an iron supplement, yippie.

The good new is that baby 'H' is growing normally. I've gained a little more weight, we won't talk about how much. Baby 'H' is now 1lb 5oz. Or as Chris said a "tall boy". And no, that doesn't give any clue to the sex of Baby 'H' as that is still a mystery to us and will be until Sept. 10th!

Nursery......the other side

I couldn't get the whole nursery in the first picture. Here's the other side. We had 2 closets in this room, so we took out the doors and created an alcove area for the dresser. No one would know any different.

If you get the chance to pay us a visit I'll even let you sit in the worlds most comfy rocking chair. The green apple. The upholstery has embossed ellipses on it, to match the ceiling ellipse! Crazy, I know.

"i am a dream come true"

We are putting the final touches on the Nursery. But here it is! Construction is done. Just need to find some shelves and maybe a floor lamp. I'm so excited. I find myself just sitting in there....waiting. The green plaque on the wall reads "i am a dream come true". I found it awhile ago and thought it was too fitting for us. The brown part on the wall and ceiling is built out drywall. The circle and ellipse on the ceiling is also drywall. Turned out better than I imagined. To be honest, I think Chris is pretty proud of it too. Even though he thought I was completely nutso when I told him what I wanted to do.

Baby 'H's daddy........marathon runner

So not only has Chris been working hard on the nursery and helping to get ready for the baby. But he's also been running and training for the 1/2 marathon in Lincoln.

Well, he made it. He finished and ran the entire thing. I am sooo proud of him. To be honest, I think I was more nervous for him the night before than he was.

After he ran, of course he was hungry. He ate alot that day, and enjoyed every bite!

Way to go #4355.....daddy 'H'!
